Frances was the daughter of Lt. Joseph Merrick and Frances Leonard Merrick. Her grandparents on her mother's side were Samuel Leonard and Elizabeth Stebbins.

Frances married Sylvester Omar Spring on May 1, 1820 in New Lebanon, NY. I noted that Frances' name was listed as Frances L. on her headstone and that her actual middle name may be Leonard after her mother's maiden name. She named her daughter Francis Leonard and her headstone is leaning against hers. So Fiske most likely is not her middle name. Note the spelling on the headstones is spelled Francis instead of Frances.

After her husband's death she lived for a time with her daughter Sarah Spring and son-in-law Bernard Eseke. Bernard was born in Holungen, Ger. During that period of time she lived in IA. She later moved back to Ill. and in 1850 was found living with her oldest son Joseph and in 1860 she was living with her son Fordyce.

Two of Frances' distant grandparents are on findagrave. Her great grandfather Deacon Joseph Merrick FG #58118849 and her ggg grandfather Thomas Merrick FG #4702606. Her ggg grandmother was Elizabeth Tilley granddaughter of John Tilley a pilgrim on the Mayflower. Her gg grandparents were James Merrick FAG #115682524 and FAG #58118800 and Sarah Hitchcock Merrick FAG #58119040 and her grandparents were Capt. Joseph Merrick FG 112283664 and Deborah Leonard Merrick FG112283680. The reason for the double FAG # on James Merrick is because the person who originally made the memorial used his headstone for the spelling and that is Mirick. That person gave that memorial to someone and than made a second memorial under the Merrick spelling and gave it to me. Finding the Mirick name is difficult so I have referred my memorial to the Mirick memorial.
