James L. Crowder, 65, of Pleasant Hill died at 1:10 Sunday afternoon in the U.S. Veteran's hospital at Wadsworth, Kansas. He was a veteran or World War I. He had been ill for many years and for the past 14 years he had been a patient in several veterans hospitals. Mr. Crowder was born Sept. 8, 1895 in Hardin township, a son of Austin and Ellen Thornton Crowder. He was married to Elva Cheek, July 4, 1918, at Bowling Green, Mo. After his marriage he was engaged in farming until disabled by failing health. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Gladell Henderson of Jacksonville; two granddaughters and two grandsons and one great grandchild; two brothers, Chester of Pleasant Hill and Ive of Monee, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hoaglin and Mrs. Leta Campbell, both of Pleasant Hill. A son, Delbert died in 1952. Funeral services will be conducted in the Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill Thursday afternoon at 2:30 with Bro. Jesse Smith officiating. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery at Pleasant Hill.
