Doris (Shaw) Robertson, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully in the same home she was born in 97 years earlier on Tuesday morning, April 9th 2013.

Doris was born on December 23, 1915, one of three children of the late Iona (Clark) and Bird W. Shaw. She graduated from Melrose High School, and lived in Melrose her entire life. Doris married the late Wayne L. Robertson, and owned and operated a hair salon in Melrose, the Modern Beauty Shop. She and Wayne raised their two sons in Melrose, and became active in the Melrose community.

Doris was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of Friendship Circle, attended weekly Bible Study, taught Sunday School, and looked forward to the annual Craft Fair. Throughout the year, Doris stayed busy making quilts, hats, mittens, and clothing to donate to the Craft Fair. After most Sunday services, she enjoyed "going out with the girls" for brunch, making many lasting friendships that she cherished over her life. Deeply devoted to her church and faith, Doris was the most tenured active member of First Baptist at the time of her passing. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and volunteered in the Gift Shop for the Ladies Auxiliary at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

In addition to her church, Doris loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. With each generation, Doris would welcome them into the world with handmade clothing, mittens, hats, Christmas stockings, and one of her famous quilts. She loved having them over, teaching each generation the art of sewing, and loved attending holidays and birthday parties. Doris learned to use a computer with the help of her grandson, and at age 97, was still emailing with her family. With a great sense of humor and quick wit, she was always ready to smile and have fun with her family. She will be missed but always remembered.

Doris was the beloved wife of the late Wayne L. Robertson. She was predeceased by her son Bruce L. Robertson and siblings Earston and Ensell Shaw.

Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
