Mrs. Audrey Lankford Chancellor, age 76 of Newnan, Georgia passed away at the Southwest Christian Care Hospice in Union City, Georgia, September 28, 2012.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chancellor will be conducted on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the Sonrise Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia with the Reverends Tim Riordan and Skeeter Thompson officiating.

The family will receive guests at the Church one hour prior to service time. The interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, Georgia.

Audrey was born January 31, 1936 in Eatonton, Georgia to Charlie and Hettie Lankford. She was raised on a large dairy farm where hard work was a part of their daily lives. They milked cows, grew corn and picked cotton. It was a blended family. Audrey was number 19 of 20 children.

After graduation, she moved to Atlanta to a boarding house with her sister Jewell. They became telephone operators at Southern Bell. She worked, until retirement, at Bell South with more than 36 years of service.

Audrey married Norvin V. Chancellor on October 12, 1957. She said, "When he took me skating on our first date, I knew we would always have fun". She often called out for him in the last weeks of her life.

They had three children, Bill, Jim and Janice. She loved them and taught them the value of hard work and determination. There was no staying home from school. "You're fine", she'd say. "Now, get up and let's go".

Audrey also loved her grandchildren. Braden was the first and he was spoiled rotten. She'd pick him up on her way home from work on Friday and he'd stay the weekend. Mackenzie was second, but the first girl, she loved to buy her clothes. Her name-sake, Audrey Kate was number three Abigail four and Grace was number five, all very special to their grandmother.

Through the years, she gave freely of her time. She was a GA teacher at Mt. Vernon Baptist in Stockbridge, sang in the choir, a Girl Scout troop leader and was an active member and two-time president of the Decatur-Tucker BellSouth Pioneers. She also volunteered with the Cancer Society, the USO, BellSouth Classic and countless other community organizations.

Audrey is survived by her sisters Blanche Sneed of Cusseta, GA, Jewell Martin of Lilburn, GA, Elsie Ellington of Conyers, GA, Love Presley and brother, Gus Lankford both of Eatonton, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband Norvin, her baby sister Margaret Lanier and many other loved ones.

Audrey had many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Audrey was loved and will be missed.
