Benton H. McClure, 58, died at 3:25 o'clock this morning from strangulation in what Deputy Coroner Jerry Masters reported was a suicide attempt last night at his hilltop trailer home.

Master said members of the family found him about 11:35 o'clock. He had fashioned a noose in a rope that was attached to the top of a trailer door, according to the deputy coroner. Ill health over a long period of time was attributed as the cause.

Mr. McClure was a native of Trimble county, but had lived in Jefferson county 29 years. He was a farmer by occupation, and a member of the Baptist church at Mt. Pleasant, Ky.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie McClure; a daughter, Mrs. Grover Lowe, of the hilltop community, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Pearl Stork, of Canyon City, Col., a brother and sister, Shelby McClure, Madison, and Mrs. Flossie Maddox, Indianapolis; three half-brothers and two half sisters, Charles McClure, with the U.S. Army in Japan; Glenn and James McClure, route four; Mrs. Sadie Spurgeon, and Mrs. Elizabeth Bicknell, of Columbus; his stepmother, Mrs. May McClure, route four, and two grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Vail Memorial funeral home. Friends may call at the memorial after 7:30 o'clock tonight.
