Richard Schmitz, the only son of former Mayor Eugene E. Schmitz of San Francisco, died in that city Wednesday after an operation for appendicitis. He was nearly eighteen years old, and was a student at the Lowell High School.
Former Mayor Schmitz left for New York several days ago in the hope of retrieving his broken fortunes by placing for production an opera of his own composition, but is expected to return at once to attend his sons funeral.
