Robert was born on March 8, 1923, in Davenport, the son of John Julius and Maude (Stafford) Kress.
He was united in marriage to A. Louise Franzen on March 31, 1944, at McClellan Heights Church, now St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Robert was part owner of Davenport Tent and Awning. After 36 years, Robert retired in 1985 as a sales engineer at Roth Pump Co., Milan, Ill. After retirement, he was the custodian at Edwards Congregational Church and St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise, Davenport; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Sarah Kress, Mason City, Iowa; and grandchildren, Cheri Kress, Washington, D.C., Jared and Amy (Swarts) Shuppy, Moline, and Dr. Jay and Kelly (Kress) Koenen, Newton, Iowa. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Don and Lloyd Schweiger and Harold and John Kress; sisters, Dorothy Kress-Bailey, Gladys Schweiger and Marie Bloomquist; and a daughter, Sue Swarts.
