DAVENPORT - Services for John S. Kress, Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport. Mr. Kress died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in Spring Hill. He was co-owner of Kress-Davenport Tent and Awning Co., Davenport. He retired in 1980. He was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Rock Island, to John and Maude (Stafford) Kress. He married Genevieve Vivian Anderson on April 20, 1935, in Davenport. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He was a former member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Davenport, where he served as an elder from the age of 19 to 40, and also served as a trustee. He was a member of the Davenport Noon Lions Club and American Legion Post 26. He enjoyed working with stained glass. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; son and daughter-in-law, John Walter Kress, and his wife, Beth Frank Kress; four grandchildren, John Werner Kress, Deborah Stafford Beck, Gregory Anderson Kress and Leah Park Carter; 11 great-grandchildren, Erin, Megan, Ian and Corey Beck, Jared, Jacob and Amy Kress, Lauren, Tucker and Zachary Kress and Joshua Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert L. Sr. and Louise Kress, Davenport, and Lloyd and Dorothy Schwieger, Middletown, Mo.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and five brothers.
