Son of Rezin Virgin (1750–1825) and Jemima A. Arnold Virgin (1755–1824).

On 17 Sep 1790, 1,000 acres on land on Huston's Fork, Bourbon Co., KY. were surveyed for Rezin Virgin.

Cenotaph headstone Elzey Virgin located at the Old Town Cemetery, by Kathleen Virgin Kenney. According to a descendant, he was buried on his farm in 1834. The cenotaph headstone is next to another cenotaph headstone for Elzey's son Rezin Virgin and two of Rezin's wives. They are buried at the Virgin Cemetery at North Fork Road, considered to be the original Virgin Farm. Elzey is buried on the farm and was perhaps the first to be buried at the Virgin Cemetery atop the hill in 1834. There are a number of stone grave markers, such as Unknown #1. There was a point in recent times when fencing was installed to keep cattle out of the cemetery. His wife Sarah Ann Downs who went on to marry John McAllister, died abt. 1880, is likely not buried with Elzey, as Elzey's children and grandchildren would have been aware of her burial on the hill above the farm.

Married Sarah Ann Downs on 30 Mar 1824, Oldtown, Greenup Co., KY. Sarah remarried to John McAllister on 15 Feb 1850, Greenup Co., KY.
