Born on Oct. 26, 1925 in Elmira, Dora Marie was a daughter of the late Eliza Mary (White) and Walter Robert Griffin.
In addition to her devoted care of family and home, Dora worked as a custodian for Canton Area Schools for many years until retirement. She was active with the Canton Innes Hose Company's Auxiliary and Canton's Women of the Moose Lodge 981, earning several degrees in the College of Regents. Most recently Dora attended the Penna. Ave. United Methodist Church in Pine City. Dora enjoyed times spent with family, gardening, bird watching and sewing; making quilts for all her children. She loved all animals, especially her pets. Her neighbors at Flannery Towers in Elmira will continue to keep Dora's flower garden tended and beautiful in her memory.
Surviving are her children, Gordy Benson (Andy Hager) of Alba, Sylvia (Gene) Horton of Millerton, Linda (Ed) Stewart, Ronnie (Sharon) Benson and Larry (Debi) Benson, all of Pine City, Caroline Freeman of Flower Mound, Texas and John (Carol) Landon of Canton; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; siblings Delores (Albert) Wheeler and Louise (Tallie) Marsh, all of Elmira, and Robert (Sandra) Griffin of Lawrenceville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Gordon A. Benson and Thomas D. Landon, and a grandson, Justin Landon.
Calling hours are 2–4 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. Rev. Charlotte Morse will officiate her funeral service at 4 p.m. Burial in East Canton Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St. Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 179 Ulster, PA 18850.
