Annie Elizabeth Stevens, 90, formerly of Council, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Maple Grove Nursing Home in Lebanon, Va., surrounded by family and friends. Born March 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Roxie Stevens Cook. In addition to her parents, Annie was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Glen Stevens; one daughter, Agnes Hill; two sons, Glen Jr. Stevens and Earnest Lee Stevens; and a great-grandson, Gage Stevens. Annie was a homemaker and longtime Christian attending Trinity Freewill Baptist. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, and aunt. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, always with a song on her heart. Those survivors left to cherish precious memories include four children, Winford Stevens and wife, Jewell, of Lebanon, Kenneth Stevens of North Carolina, Anna Drinnon and companion, Willie, of Mitchellville, Md., and Roxie Drinnon of Middleton, Md.; two sisters, Mickey Stinson of Lebanon, and Larcie Hess and husband Elden of Council; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and beloved friends. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to all of the staff of Maple Grove Nursing Home for their care and compassion of our loved one for the past 8½years. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. We will remember the life of Annie Stevens at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at Owens Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and the Rev. Billy Harris officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Annie will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Bowen Gap Cemetery in Council on Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery. Gravesite Details

Annie always told me that she didn't want to live to see another of her children buried before she died...and she didn't. I added her memorial to this cemetery as she told me she wanted to be buried next to her son Glen.
