Mr. Herbert E. Strickland, 85, died Monday night (April 1, 2013) at his daughter's residence in Bryceville, FL.

He was a native of Blackshear, but he resided most of his life in Jacksonville, FL. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Strickland was formerly employed by Humphreys Mining Company, Chevron Oil, and for 19 years as a welding instructor at Florida Jr. College. He most recently owned and operated Strickland Pump Service.

He is the son of the late Herman Strickland and Laura Aldridge Strickland. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Raye Strickland.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Crews Strickland of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Neva Karon Strickland Ross (husband Scott) of Jacksonville, FL, and Connie Marie Strickland Smith (former husband Delbert) of Bryceville, FL; five grandchildren, Angie Wells (Jim), Shauna Davis (Calvin), Amanda Maloney (Shaun), Derek Smith and Del Smith (Kim); six great grandchildren, Austin Wells, Jay Wells, Ansley Wells, Alden Davis, Brody Davis, and Wyatt Smith; one great great grandchildren, Raylan Wells; two brothers, Theron Strickland of Blackshear, and Edmond Strickland of Palatka; two sisters, Loretta Carter and Louvina Manders both of Waycross; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday (April 5, 2013) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in High Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
