Luella was born in Trowbridge, Township, Allegan County, Michigan. She was the first child of two born to Fred Martin Russon and Olive Silvia Manzer. Olive died in 1914, leaving Fred to raise 13 year old Luella and 10 year old Leon. 9 months later, Fred married his life long mate, Elsie Floy Hayse on Mar 4 1915. Together they produced five more children including twins. Luella graduated from Western State Teachers Normal College in 1925 and taught school in Harbor Beach, Allegan Co., Kalamazoo, and St.Petersburg, Fla. She married Robert Alton Brown July 9 1926 in Otsego, Allegan Co. Mich. Three children were born to them. Luella accepted Robert's son from a previous marriage as one of her own. She was very active in the Methodist church where she taught Sunday School for several years. Upon retiring, she and Robert enjoyed traveling the USA and moved to St. Petersburg. They lived there until Robert's death in 1962. She moved back to Otsego, Mich to live out her days enjoying her grandchildren.
