Mildred I. Staudenmaier, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away on Jan. 15, 2009, at the local hospital.
Mildred was born on Sept. 24, 1920, in Wathena, Kan., to Oscar and Agnes Benitz.
Mildred graduated from Troy High School in 1938. She worked at Lebowitz as an alteration specialist, retiring in 1990. She was also involved with the family dairy farm operation. In addition, she taught several years in a one-room school house in rural Kansas.
Mildred was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and was active in the Altar Society, Extension Clubs and was a 4-H leader.
She married John C. Staudenmaier on April 28, 1943, in Wathena. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1992. She was also preceded by her parents; three sons Gregory, Roger and John Richard; one granddaughter Jennifer Curtis; one sister Lorene Gibson; one brother Gordon Benitz.
She is survived by one daughter Roseann Curtis and husband, Richard, St. Joseph; three grandsons Brian Holmes, Texas; Kyle and Drew Curtis, St. Joseph; sister-in-law Rosemary Benitz; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Monday, Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Hurlingen, Mo. Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurlingen. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to Camp Quality or the Parkinson's Foundation.
