John A. Chalfant Dies At Hospital
John A. Chalfant, forty-four, well known local grocer, died Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, in the Lancaster General hospital, of pneumonia, after an illness of two weeks. He resided at 501 South Lime street.
He was a member of Salome U. B. church, Columbia, and was affiliated with the White Cross Commandery, Knights of Malta, of this city. For the past twelve years Mr. Chalfant conducted a grocery store at the corner of South Lime and Chester streets.
Besides his widow, who was Mary Kreider, of Columbia, before marriage, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Louisa Chalfant, of this city; also a brother, Bertram and a sister, Miriam, wife of Eldred Reaney, both of Nashville, Tenn.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
