Marcus W. Pace, 92, of Longview, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in a local hospital. Marcus was born Oct. 27, 1912, in Kenedy to Dan and Ida Campbell Pace. Marcus was in important part of the athletics of Kenedy High School playing football, tennis, baseball and track, a sport in which he competed in state competitions. After graduation from Kenedy High School, Marcus went on to study in San Marcos. Marcus took his love of sports and the outdoors with him in life after high school. He loved playing golf and followed his son, Roy Pace, for 10 years on the professional golf tour. He played golf until he was 88 years old. Marcus loved being outdoors and living in East Texas gave him the best opportunities for enjoying the outdoors. He was a great sportsman, deer and fox hunter. Marcus was a longtime member of First Methodist Church until he became homebound several years ago. He loved country music and spending time with his family. Above all else, Marcus loved his family. He married his wife of 47 years, Irene Leona Natho, on June 14, 1940, in Runge and she preceded him in death on May 27, 1987. He missed her every day that she was gone. His family that survives him include a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Sandy Pace of Hallsville; daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and James Snowden of Longview and Linda Guice of Houston; grandchildren: Justin Pace of Houston, Sari Pace of San Francisco, Jenny Kanagy and her husband, Phil, of Clayton, N.C., Wendy Ward and her husband Chad of Georgetown, Colin Snowden and his wife Giselle of Royse City, Larissa Baggett and her husband Cliff of Houston, Rebecca Nutt and her husband Marty of Friendswood; brothers, Floyd Pace of Tyler, Jimmy Pace and his wife Billie Ann of Tyler, and Charles Pace of Kenedy; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Joel and Rachel Kanagy, Nolan Ward, Taylor and Ava Nutt, Sidney Baggett, many nieces and nephews and cousins; and caregivers Sondra Gibson, Dorothy Fyffe, and Sherrie Norvell, James Robinson, and Amanda Sash. Services will be held 2 p.m. today, Feb. 5, 2005, in the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
