He married Anna Ellen Allen at Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts 7 April 1677, who was a daughter of Nicholas Allen of Dorchester, Massachusetts.
He removed, probably about 1681-82, to Suffield (now Connecticut), where he was one of the most prominent and influential settlers.
He was often chosen to important offices. He was a member of the General Court to the Colony, then held in Boston, 1711 to 1714 and again in 1717.
He died suddenly in Boston, on 17 November 1717, while in attendance upon his duties as a member of the General Court from Suffield.
His body was returned to Suffield for burial.
He had acquired a large amount of property and was greatly esteemed. His will, dated 20 November 1717 is recorded in Boston and at Northampton, which was the county seat of Hampshire County - to which Suffield then belonged.
His children: Dorothy 1679-1772; Rebecca; Daniel 1683 - unknown; Jacob 1685-1756; Elizabeth; Abraham; John, died young; Ann; Sarah and John 1694-1758.
