In 1870 John listed his occupation as Assistant Carpenter.

He was married by Reverend J.F. Robertson at Cook Street Methodist Church in Bushwick, NY on September 9, 1877 to Marion Wallace McLeod. Marriage Certificate #1944.

In 1879 he worked at a Confectionary Store at 372 Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn.

In 1877 & 1880 he listed his occupation as Fish Dealer.

During 1892 when living at 66 Stockholm Street, John was struck on May 11th by a horse drawn Dodd's Express wagon at the foot of Fulton Street in Brooklyn and tragically killed leaving 7 young children with his widow.
