WIFE: Harriette Sprague, married in Geneva, Illinois, on January 10, 1854; moved to Houston Co. MN about 1857, where the family lived on the farm until 1892 when they moved into the village (Hokah). At least seven children were born to this couple; obituary says six children survived him: Mrs. Polly Bandy of Clear Lake, Washington; Mrs. E. L. Fitzpatrick and C. E. Davis of La Crosse; Joseph Davis of Plainville, Illinois; Miss Alice Davis and Ray Davis, both living at home. Richard had been in ill health for several years and his death was not unexpected.
He was a good citizen, always taking an interest in public affairs, being anxious to voice his opinion as he considered the right by his ballot at every opportunity, even after his health made it difficult for him to get to the polls.
Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at the residence, conducted by Rev. C. Schoenhelder, and the remains were laid to rest in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
