Pickens Stansell Moore, youngest son of Charles Wardlaw Moore and the former Miss Lydia Ann Scott, was born on the 27th of August 1897 in Washington, D.C. Known by family and friends, as Stan, he grew up with two older brothers and three sisters. Stan's parents were originally from the old south; father Augusta, Georgia and mother from Columbia, South Carolina.

In April 1917, when the United States entered World War I; Stan enlisted as a private in the 164th U.S. Infantry of the American Expeditionary Forces. Private Stan Moore served in the same regiment as his father, who was senior color sergeant. Sergeant Moore, at 62, was said to be the oldest U.S. non-commissioned officer serving in France.

After the war, Stan returned to Washington and graduated from Washington Business High School. Later moving to New York City and getting his accounting degree from Pace Institute for Accounting.

In 1926, Stan married Mary Alice Streckfuss, daughter of Frederick C. and Henrietta [née Burke] Streckfuss of Passaic, New Jersey. They had one daughter, Mary Elizabeth. Stan moved his family to Essex, Connecticut in 1930; where he was employed by Dauntless Ship Yards.

At the age of 35, P. Stansell Moore, died due to injuries received in an auto accident on February 16th 1933. Stan, a beloved father, husband, son and brother was laid to rest in River View Cemetery.
