Margaret T. Bauer was born August 9, 1918 in Juanita, ND to Charles and Cecelia Bauer. As a young child, the family moved to Bordulac, ND, where she graduated from high school in 1936. While in high school she was an excellent basketball player. She then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, where she won numerous honors as an outstanding typist. Upon graduation from business college, she worked for Wimmer's Jewelry in Fargo until going to work during the war at an ammunition depot in Nebraska. Upon returning to Fargo, she was employed by Standard Oil Co. in their district office.
Margaret enjoyed a bowling league, where she was an outstanding bowler, winning many tournaments. She was also the first secretary of the Maple River Women's Golf Association.
On July 1, 1949, she was united in marriage to Maurice Hartz at Breckenridge, MN, where they farmed. In 1950, they bought a farm at Mapleton, ND, where they have resided since. She also became interested in the stock market, which proved to be a very profitable business for her.
She is survived by her husband of over 55 years; a son, Brenton, Fargo and two granddaughters, Justine and Ella Hartz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
