Clergyman, Meth. Epis. Pastor at Antwerp, N. Y., 1852-3. Principal Fairfield Seminary, 1854-61, 1866-9, 1885-6. Member St. Louis Conf., since 1877.

Has published a history of the old settlers of Claverack, N. Y., 1886, and contributed frequently to various papers and periodicals, including the Herkimer Co. Journal Utica Morning Herald Northern Christian Advocate.

Commissary General of New York, 1866-7. Trustee of Antietam National Cemetery for N.Y., 1867. Senator of the State of New York, 1868-9, and had charge of the bill by which Syracuse University was transferred from Lima, N. Y., to Syracuse, N. Y. Chaplain 34th N. Y. Vol., 1861-2.

Lieut Col., 16th. N.Y., Vol. 1862-5. Col. 193d N.Y. Vol., 1855-6.
Commander Camp Seward, 1862 and 1865. Commander i6th N. Y. Vol., two years. Commander Dist of Cumberland, 1865-6. Commanded i6th X. Y. Vol. in eight battles, including battle of Winchester ; 2d Brigade, 1st Div. 19th Corps in two battles, etc. etc. Severely wounded at Winchester 19 Sept. 1864, and mentioned in the Gen. Orders by General Sheridan for conspicuous gallantry and important services in this battle. Commissioned Brevet Brig. Gen. of U.S. Vol. for meritorious conduct through the Civil War. Mar. 1865.
