The following death announcement was published on page one of the Butler Herald newspaper dated September 10, 1931:

The almost sudden passing of Mrs. Jincy Olivia Martin Averett, the devoted companion of Mr. G. W. Averett, of Howard, last Thursday night about 10 o'clock, was a great shock to her numerous friends in Taylor county and elswhere.
Mrs. Averett was stricken while on a visit to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Brown, near neighbors. In spite of all that skilled physicians could devise for her relief, and anxious household and loving hearts and hands cound do to relieve her of her suffering, she passed peacefully away about six hours after being stricken.
Mrs. Averett was born in this county Nov. 2, 1876, the daughter of the late Mr. J. R. Martin and Mrs. Susan Parks Martin. She was converted and joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Macon, many years ago. Her faith in her Savior was steadfast and beauiatiful. Her life was spent in sercive to her Master, her loved ones, neighbors and friends. She had a pleasant smile for everyuone, and her sunny disposition was never lessened by adverse circumstance which had crossed her pathway in life.
Surviving relatives who are saddened by the death of this truly good woman are as follows: Mrs. G. W. Averett, the husband; two daughters, Mrs. R. O. Cannon, of Macon; and Miss Marilou Averett, of Howard; three brothers and two sisters, Messrs. W. H., J.S. and H. D. Martin, Mrs. J. H. Brown and Mrs. B. Watson.
Funeral services for the deceased were conducted Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. A. C. Becker, assisted by Rev. E. H. Dunn and Rev. Jas. F. Jackson, followed by interment in Howard cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs.. O. M. Martin, Paul Fain, Lawrence Hill, James Brown, Joe Brown and J.D. Adams, with J.W. Edwards Jr. of Butler, funeral director, in charge.
