James J. Cuthbert, Sr., 74, of Shreveport, passenger conductor on the Illinois Central Railroad Company since 1907, and connected with the railroad for 52 years, died in Shreveport at his residence while asleep Tuesday night and was found in bed Wednesday morning.

He is survived by his son, J. J. Cuthbert, Jr., Executive Vice-President and Cashier of the First National Bank of Rayville; and two grandsons.

Services were held in Shreveport Thursday at 10 a.m., at Osborn Funeral Home Chapel, of Shreveport, with Rev. J. H. Gould officiating. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery of Delhi with Masonic rites, Thursday at 4 p.m.

Mr. Cuthbert was formerly of Delhi, where he was born and reared to young manhood. He has many friends in his native Parish of Richland, included among the number is the Editor of The Beacon-News, who regret his passing and offer sympathy and condolence to the bereaved son and other members of the family.
