Charles was a son of John Henry Beery and Laura Jane Moyer, and a brother of Emma Luella, John Warren, Earl Jacob, Ralph Cleon, Ethel Lanore, and Roy Franklin Beery.

The family moved to Blue Springs, Gage County, Nebraska about 1884, and then to Humboldt, in Richardson County about 1887. In 1900 Charles was working as an engineer at the local powerhouse in Humboldt.

Charles also worked for General Electric on the battleship Nebraska, which was under construction from 1902-1904, and he went to Alaska to survey for the first Alaskan railroad, which was begun in 1903.

Charles married Lora Myler on September 19, 1904 in Seattle, and was the father of:
John Charles and Myler Moyer "Mike" Beery.

They moved to Springbrook, King, Washington about 1905, and then to Burns, Oregon, where Charles was working as a civil engineer in 1910. In 1920 he was a civil engineer for a land company in Harmony, Oregon, in 1930 he was a salesman for General Motors in Wichita, Oregon, and in 1940 he was working as a draftsman for the Bonneville Power Administration.

After Charles retired, he and Lora moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 1951.
