Nathan Edwin Bishop was born at Readsboro, Vt., June 19, 1844, where he grew to manhood and was married to Vina Burt. They came to Kansas and homesteaded nine and one-half miles northeast of Delphos. In 1877 his wife died, but he and their adopted son, Arthur, continued to live on the farm and endured the hardships of the early settlers. In 1886 he was married to Mrs. Orpha Smiley. In 1888 he sold the Cloud county farm, moved to Lincoln county and located five miles northwest of Barnard where he spent most of his remaining years. He had been in poor health and a patient sufferer for a number of years.

He died at his home near Barnard January 25, 1925, aged 80 years, 7 months and 6 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, who gave him tender care in his declining years; her son, Ralph, to whom he was a kind and loving father; Arthur, of Salina, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Addie Usher, of Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Elvira Thayer, of Readsboro, Vt., who is nearly 90 years old, and numerous other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday of last week at the D.M. Bourne home conducted by I.N. Richardson, and burial was made in the Delphos Cemetery.
