Betty Jo Hardin Chambers, of Elizabethton, left this earth on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center, and carried into the arms of God.
She was born in Carter County, the daughter of the late Fred and Zola Morrell Hardin.
Betty was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She will always be remembered for her deep seeded Christian Faith and her unconditional devotion to her "Special Angel" Luanne. She was a homemaker and a very special mother who always put her children's needs before her own.
Betty was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where she served as pianist in her earlier years. She later joined East Side Free Will Baptist Church so she could go where her children attend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Elmer Chambers; a sister, Frances Wellborn; a son-in-law, Ricky Paul Whisenhunt; and several aunts and uncles.
She was loved so much and will be greatly missed by her survivors: two daughters, "The light of her life" Luanne, and Vicki Whisenhunt, both of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Teresa Chambers, Elizabethton, and Johnny and Vanessa Chambers, Channel View, Texas; a grandson, Joey Chambers and fiancée Krystal Tyler; a half sister, Barbara Merritt, Elizabethton; her special niece, Debby Keller and nephew, Art Wellborn; a cousin, Patsy Glass; and a very special cousin and wife, J.M. and Helen Galloway, Nashville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Chambers will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Justin Deaton officiating. Music will be provided by Cathy Letchoe. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, will be Terry Chambers, Joey Chambers, Roger Ledford, David Smith, Joe Alexander and Rick Broome. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Shipley, Art Wellborn, Edwin Alexander and Bill Broome.
