Mother of Twelve Dies At Age of 88 Years
Mrs. Mary Beadle of Arkville, aged 88, died Saturday morning at the Margaretville hospital where she had been undergoing treatment for a few days. Mrs.Beadle's maiden name was Mary Alton. She was born at Griffin Comers, now Fleischmanns, Nov. 6, 1855. She was married to James E. Fairbairn of Dry Brook and lived on the farm in Dry Brook now called "Forge Cottage." To them were born twelve children, ten of whom survive her. They sold their farm in Dry Brook to George Gould and moved to the Margaretville farm now owned by Casper Bellows. After Mr. Fairbairn's death, she bought a home in this village and lived there until a few months ago, when she sold the house and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. O. A. Todd of Arkville.
Mrs. Beadle was thrice married. Her second husband was William Decker; her third, Tallman Beadle. Both preceded her in death. She is survived by ten children: Rachel Todd of Arkville, Frank of Bovina, Nelson of Arkville, Archibald of Seager, David of Pine Hill, Thurber of Dunraven, James of Arena, George McMurray of Dunraven and Charles of Kearney, N. J.; also two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Clark of Margaretville and Miss Cora Alton of Fleischmanns, and thirty-nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and three greatgreat- grandchildren. Her funeral was held Tuesday, March 30, at Lattin's funereal chapel and burial was made beside her first husband, James Fairbairn, at Margaretville. -Arkville Cor.
