Clayton Albert McAffee passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.

Clayton was born July 8, 1927, in Darrington, Idaho, to Albert Clayton McAffee and Phemia Coleman. Clayton had six brothers and sisters. He grew up in Arco, Idaho, on the family farm. At an early age, he developed a passion for animals, especially cattle and horses.

At age 17, he graduated from high school, then was drafted into the Army at age 18. After being honorably discharged, Clayton returned to the family farm.

One day, he met a beautiful woman, Veloy Rothwell. They were married Oct. 24, 1950, in Evanston, Wyo. Clayton and Veloy had three daughters, Sheila, Terry and Marsha. Clayton had an opportunity to get farmland in Washington, so they moved to Othello, Wash., where their fourth daughter, Sherree, was born. The family was complete.

The early days of farming were hard, so Clayton always had a second job in town. Clayton and Veloy worked hard and raised their daughters. He retired from his job and sold his farm. Clayton was able to travel with his family and enjoy life. He always had a good story or a joke to tell you. We will all miss him.

Clayton was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Pasco and Kennewick Eagles.

Clayton is survived by his daughters, Sheila (Derlyn) Brown of Grand Coulee, Wash., Terry (Ken) Barrett of Kennewick, Wash., Marsha (Kevin) Asay of Moses Lake, Wash., and Sherree (Dwight) Leavitt of Kennewick, Wash.; sisters, Amy Rice of Kennewick, Wash., and Althea (Ray) Stewart of Pasco, Wash.; brothers, John (Virginia) McAffee and Merlin (Susan) McAffee, both of Idaho Falls; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Veloy Rothwell McAffee; his parents, Albert and Phemia McAffee; and brothers, Melvin McAffee of Basin City, Wash., and Ken McAffee of Idaho Falls.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to Hawthorne Court, Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House and Ethyl Flores for all their help and support.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco, Wash. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday after the visitation, with interment to follow at Bess Hampton in Othello, Wash. Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
