Funeral services for former postmaster, Lawrence (Sherrill) Astin, 73, 128 W. Madison Ave., were to be held today (Thursday), October 28 in Faith United Methodist Church, the Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Burial was to be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville.
Mr. Astin died Oct. 25 in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in failing health since 1962.
An area resident for more than 60 years, he was born Nov. 11, 1897 in the town of Cold Springs, the son of Shirley and Lottie Rockwell Astin. He was married to Charlotte L. Hutson June 4, 1920 in Milton Junction. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary last year.
Mr. Astin was postmaster in Milton Jct. for 27 years, retiring in 1963. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Wayne, Green Bay; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Lynn, Milton Jct.; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Frederick, Milton, and Mrs. Philip Hull, Janesville.
He was predeceased by a son, Larry, in 1966, and two brothers, Elmer and George.
