George E. (Jiggs) Astin, 65, longtime area resident, died Monday evening at 726 Ansley Ave., the victim of a heart attack. Although he had been in ill health for the past year, his death was unexpected.

Funeral services were to be held today, Thursday, March 19, at 2 p.m. in the Faith United Methodist Church, the Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Burial was to be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville, with Carl Sholes, William Patterson, Norman Rusch, Elmer Edwardson, Emil Fuchs and Glenn Jessup as pallbearers.

The son of Shirley and Lottie Rockwell Astin, he was born April 24, 1904 at Whitewater. He was a 1923 graduate of Milton High School and was married to the former Bessie Klitzkie on June 28, 1924 at Waukegan, Ill. The couple had lived their entire married life in this area. He was employed for 32 years at the Chevrolet Division of General Motors in Janesville until his retirement in 1966. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Milton Junction.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Duard (Marjorie) Severance, Milton Junction; a granddaughter, Mrs. Evan (Linda) Schwartz, Madison; a grandson, Robert Severance, Austin, Texas, and four great-granddaughters; two brothers, Lawrence and Lynn Astin, both of Milton Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Fredrick, Milton Junction, and Mrs. Philip Hull, Janesville; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, George Jr., and one brother, Elmer.
