Walter Nelson, 95, resident of 711 Hickory Street, passed away Friday morning at his home.
Mr. Nelson was born July 9, 1881 southwest of Brayton, the son of Martin and Juliane Sophie Hansen Nelson. He grew to manhood and farmed southwest of Brayton. He was married to Katherine Nymand in 1904 and she passed away on January 30, 1908. Later on April 22, 1911 he married Christine Matilda Laursen in Omaha. The couple retired from farming in 1957 and moved to Atlantic. Mr. Nelson was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Matilda; six daughters, Mrs. Emery (Florence) Peterson of Sonora, CA, Mrs. Fred (Katherine) Nelson of Springville, Iowa, Mrs. Leo (Arlene) Stephens and Mrs. James (Doris) Watkins both of Atlantic, Mrs. Lesie (Avis) Stiles of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Mrs. Haig (Iola) Arakelian of Del Mar, CA; two sons, W. Arnold Nelson of Ontario, CA and Raymond Lee Nelson of Atlantic; 16 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Katherine; four brothers, John, William, Christy, and Edward; four sisters, Anna Tole, Minnie Knudsen, Mary Baltzer, and Hannah Larsen; and one granddaughter, Mrs. Charlotte Dose.
