William Franklin, son of John Franklin, Sr. and Elizabeth Collie Franklin was born in Chester County, South Carolina. He was seven years old when his parents and three siblings migrated to Lincoln County, Tennessee and settled on Coldwater Creek in 1812. His uncle, Lewis Collie, and family had been living in Walton County, Georgia, where his oldest daughter, Sarah, was born. They arrived in the Coldwater Creek area about the same as Williams' family. The children of these families grew up together. William married his first cousin Sarah Collie. They raised their family and lived in the Coldwater Creek area the rest of their lives.
Note: William's sister Jane Franklin, married Sarah's brother, William Collie, and they moved to Independence County, Arkansas, with some of the extended Collie family.
