This man is likely to be mistaken for the Augustus B. Stoughton who was the Patent Clerk in Washington D.C. for a time and who also, at one time, resided in York, Pennsylvania and whose estate was declared insolvent, in 1837.
In 1850 he was employed as a Tin Smith, in Lewisburg, Pa., age 30 and he was married to Rebecca, age 29 and had several children living with him, at home. These were:
1. Roland, age 9; 2. Sarah Jane, age 7; 3. Frank, age 6; 4. Mary, age 3 and 5. William, age 9/12 and all of them were born in Pennsylvania.
The year 1860, finds he was still residing in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, age 46, still employed as a Tin Smith, married to Rebecca, age 30, and with children Roland, age 19, also a Tin Smith; Sarah, age 17; Frank, age 15, listed as Laborer; William, age 11; James, age 11; C. Stoughton, age 4, a female and A. Stoughton, age 2, also a female, living with him, in Lewisburg, Pa.
In 1880, he is still residing in Lewisburg, age 66 and working as a Tinsmith. He is married and has several children still in the home: Nellie, age 18; Abby, age 21; James, also a Tinsmith, age 26; Isabel, age 26 and Mary, age 31.
He reappears in 1900, in Lewisburg and he is age 86 and still working as a Tin Smith. He is married to Rebecca, age 71 and he still has children living with him and they are: Mary, age 50; James, age 45, working as a Bartender and Abby,(This name looks like Abbie with this census, but we are not sure;age 39.)
He died on 27 June 1906 and is buried in the Lewisburg Cemetery along with his wife and several of his children.
