Harry Manley Smith was born June 3, 1896 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, son of Blanche (Payne) (Gilbert) (Allen) Smith (1858–1943) and 3rd husband Mack Ferrin "M F" Smith (1842–1914). {When his father Mack died in 1914 in Montgomery County, he was buried in the "family burial ground."}

He was married to Lucille Porter (1900–1970). the daughter of Leslie Trabue Porter (1875–1948) and Mollie Ella (Morrow) Porter (1875–1968).

A US Army veteran and a County Court Clerk, Harry was a resident of Clarksville, Montgomery County, 49 years old and married when he passed away on August 9, 1945. Burial was twp days later in Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville.
