Melvin F. Kauffman, 73, of 1226 Vermont Ave., Allentown, died Thursday, July 31, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Shelly) Kauffman. They were married 51 years in June.
A shop steward for United Auto Workers Union Local 677, he was a draftsman at Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown, for 32 years, retiring in 1986.
Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Theodore and Verna D. (Fatzinger) Kauffman.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Allentown, and a volunteer at the Allentown Ecumenical Food Bank.
An Army veteran of World War II, he received a Purple Heart.
He was a past treasurer of the Mountainville Mixers Bowling League and an umpire for Mack Trucks Softball League for many years.
Survivors: Wife; sons, M. Lee and Keith L., and daughter, Carol A., wife of Thomas Leffler, all of Allentown; brothers, Theodore of Whitehall Township, Franklin of Catasauqua and Ronald of Neffs; sister, Charlotte Weaver of Allentown, and seven grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, 46 E. Susquehanna St., Allentown. Call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.
