He was the second born child and second son of John and Martha Evans-Cole.
Siblings were: William N., Mary E. (md. Horton), Clara E., and Susan J. His father's second marriage to Eliza Bivens, after the death of his mother, two sisters were born: Oma A., and Bertha B. His childhood residence was Clay Co, In.
He married Minnie Edna McLaughlin, Sept. 15, 1895, in Clay Co, at the home of her mother.
Children from this union were: Gracie Maude, Elmer Richard, Estella Florence, and Nola Juanita.
He was a coal miner in Terre Haute, Indiana when he met and married Minnie. They moved to Illinois, around 1900 to 1912. In the 1920's he found employment with the Monon Railroad in Lafayette, IN and retired from this company.
He played the fiddle and encouraged his granddaughter (Roberta Dawson) to play.
