The oldest daughter of Elmer Alexander Burroughs and Grace Marian Leonard, Harriet had a twin brother named Arthur who died young. She had a total of 17 siblings in all, including 2 half-brothers.

Harriet married William Clarence Welch, Sr. in March of 1937. He was the widowed father of 1 son from his first marriage. Harriet and William were the parents of 4 children.

He worked for the Sieloff Packing Company in St. Louis, Missouri.

At the time of her death, Harriet was 91 years, 4 months and 18 days old.

She was survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law; 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law; 1 step-son; and 11 grandchildren. She was also a great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, William, who passed away in 1973.

Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. on 15 Apr 2010 at Collier's Funeral Home in St. Ann, St. Louis County, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted there at 11 a.m. the following morning.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be given to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

Children: 1 step-son, 2 sons, 2 daughters.
