Obituary in Lufkin Daily News, Feb. 19, 1995

Funeral services for Mrs. Nan Nina Charlton, 94, of Lufkin, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with pastor I. D. Starling, Sr., Bro. Patrick Sanders and the Rev. John Caskey officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Charlton was born in Cherokee County, Sept. 1, 1900, and died Friday, Feb. 17 in a local hospital. She had resided in Lufkin most of her life. She retired after 15 years as a child care attendant in the nursery of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church and served 15 years as foster grandparent at the Lufkin State School.

She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she served as senior choir president, Missionary Society and primary Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Community Aid Club of Keltys and the White Swan Court No. 148 of the Heroines of Jericho.

Survivors: daughter, Laura Claybon of Lufkin; grandchildren, Cedric C. Buckley of Lufkin, Vicki Claybon of Garland and Willie Martha Touriac of Houston; grandson and wife, Clarence and Willie Mae Ashford of Houston; great-grandchildren, Tracey Claybon of Norman, OK., Carlton Touriac, Roman Ashford and Adrian Ashford, all of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
