Anton Janicek, an old pioneer, was born March 1, 1876 in New Town, Moravia. At the age of 18 he came to America and started working around Omaha, then moved to Custer county, where he worked a short time.

On August 26, 1899 he was united in marriage to Anna Kolar. The young couple then moved to Eureka township in Valley County, where they homesteaded their 80 acres and built themselves a sod house. From there he worked and saved to build up his place.

Four children were born to this union, three of which are still living. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Anna; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Kvetensky of Elyria and Mrs. Anna Bruha of Burwell; and one son Frank K., also of Burwell; fifteen grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Janicek suffered a paralytic stroke on December 22, 1950 and has been an invalid ever since, being taken care of by his wife and son Frank at his home. He passed away Monday morning, May 16, 1955 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 16 days.
