JUNCTION CITY A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 9 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church for Vera Jean Banton of Junction City, who died July 24 of cardiac arrest. She was 77. A reception will follow the service at 30561 Hayes Lane, Junction City.
She was born July 21, 1931, in New Underwood, S.D., to Earl and Alice Osborn Hammerquist. She married Calvin Banton on Aug. 31, 1950, in Eugene. He died March 2, 2003.
She graduated from Eugene High School in 1949.
Survivors include three sons, Dale and Gary, both of Junction City, and Steve of Bend; a daughter, Linda Foster of Alpine, Texas; three brothers, Robert Hammerquist of Kaihei, Hawaii, Leland Hammerquist of Moorpark, Calif., and Floyd Hammerquist of Vancouver, Wash.; three sisters, Daisy Johnson of Springfield, Marie Holm of Eugene and Virginia Beaufait of Kauoi, Hawaii; 17 grand?children and three great-grandchildren. A son, Mark Banton, died Jan. 13, 2003.
