Rolin Charles "Rod" Whitmire, age 76, of Sigourney, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. Rod was born June 14, 1936, in Delta, Ohio, to Leroy and Leta(Gaudern)Whitmire and graduated from Liberty Center High School. On March 19, 1955 he married Evelyn Carol Kethel in Swanton, Ohio. Rod worked in a factory in the Toledo, Ohio area for 13 years. Then, in 1974, he became a minister and served churches in Ohio, Missouri and Iowa. While in Coffey, Missouri, he also owned and operated Whitmire Service. Rod retired from the ministry and moved to Sigourney in 1997, where he worked at Duro-Last Roofing until 2005. Rod enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing and playing slow pitch softball with his congregations. He was active in FFA in high school and won many awards. While in Coffey Rod served as mayor, fire chief and was on the school board.

Survivors include his wife; Carol Whitmire of Sigourney; six children; Charles(Anita)Whitmire of Liberty Center, Ohio, Susan Hendricks of Sigouney, Rebecca O'Brien of Sigourney, Michael(Koby)Whitmire of Bethany, Missouri, Daniel Whitmire of Eagleville, Missouri and Kelley (Reggie)Horstman of Ida Grove; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one brother: Duane(Diane)Whitmire of Bowling Green, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law; Lee Hendricks: great granddaughter; Dacey Whitmire in infancy and brother; Cecil Whitmire.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Lancaster Christian Church in rural Sigourney, with Revs. Dave Matteson, Churck Whitmire and Jim Eschenbrenner officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the family. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Rod and his family.
