George W. Hufford called from lifes active duties

George W. Hufford one of the most highly respected and best known farmers of the county, died at his home on the Cartersburg road Thursday night of hardening of the arteries.

The funeral was Sunday morning from the Cartersburg Baptist church conducted by Rev.J.E. Sherrill, the Masons and the Odd Fellows assisting, with the interment in the village cemetery.

George Hufford was the son of Henry and Huldah Hufford, born in Putnam county Sept. 13, 1847.

His parents moved to this county in 1862 and since that time , Mr.Hufford lived on the farm where he died. He and Mary F. Owens were married Oct. 1, 1868 and to them were born two sons Robert and Commodore. The latter was drowned July 24, 1898 and the former is now the sheriff of the county. The mother also survives. George Hufford was a charter member and a staunch supporter of the Cartersburg Baptist church. He took a deep interest in affairs of government and for many years was prominent in the Republican county organization. His splendid example and cheery greeting will be long remembered.
