Last Saturday evening a Mr. Hadley and Commodore Hufford of near Bellville, Hendricks county, came to spend a few days with their wives, and on Sunday morning at about 8 o'clock, they all went to the Lower Falls and the men went under where the water pours over, to take a shower bath, which they did, and as Mr. Hadley could not swim, he went around the pool, and as Mr. Hufford was a good swimmer he swam across, or started to, but before he reached the other shore, the cramps took him in the legs and he gave the alarm, but as the by standers thought it fun they did not make any effort, but on the second alarm they saw that he was actually drowning, and there were three men close to the water but neither could swim the least bit, and a man about 200 yards away heard the screams of the women and he ran to the scene as quick as he could get there, and was only a few feet from him when he went down for the last time. The news of the drowning soon brought a crowd and a boat was taken to the place and D.Z. Erwin and Al. Shaffer took the prods and fastened long poles to them and made a search for the dead body and found him in about two and a half hours. Mr. Hufford was born and raised in Hendricks county. He was 26 years old, leaves a widow and one child less than a year old.
