Virgil was my 2nd Great Grand Uncle. He was the Son of David C. and Olive Daniell Hamby. He was the fourth of ten children.

His siblings were Benajah (Benjamin) Judson, Milajak "Micajah" Leonard, Robert Thomas, Tandyea John Rufus, David Marcellus, Roxy(Rosa) Connelly, Peatus Theodore, Olive Adilida Augusta and Emerinda "Lula" Talulah Hamby Daniell.

At age 19 he started service in the Civil War - Cobb Mountaineers - Company I - 7th Regiment - Georgia - under Capt. William Wilkinson White. He was appointed 2nd Corporal - May 31, 1861. Elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant February 1863. And surrendered at Appomattox, Virginia, April 9, 1865.

He married Elsie Arsena Mayes about 1866 in Cobb County, Georgia.

They were the parents of Emmett Marcellus, Lena Hamby Casey, David C., George Theodore, Eunice Leo Hamby Casey and Ada Lucille Hamby.

This was a man of true honor and integrity.

He passed away February 8, 1924 in Adairsville, Bartow County, Georgia at 81 years, 8 months and 23 days of age.
