He was the eldest son of
Michael & Rosannah Eichelberger
BORN June 17, 1805
Died at White Hall Hospital S.C. Feb. 22nd 1862
Aged 56 years 8 months and 5 days
Although of advanced age at the com-
mencement of hostilities between
the Confederate and United States and firmly
impressed with the truth and justice of
the cause of the south he volunteered
in Company H 13th Reg of S.C. Volunteers
led by his son Capt. P A Eichelberger and
enlisted for the war.
He was a true patriot and christian and
delighted in the poets words
How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer's ear.
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fears."

The Eichelberger-Hobbs Cemetery, Newberry County, SC. Sun., April 27, 2014. George Adam Eichelberger. Birth: Jun. 17, 1805 - Death:Jul. 22, 1862
Spouse: Mahala Eigner Eichelberger (1808-1874)
Children: George M. Eichelberger (1829-1859).
Inscription:"He was the oldest son of Michael and Rosannah Eichelberger, born June 17, 1805, Died at White Hall Hospital July 22, 1862, Age 56y 8m 5d." (courtesy of FAG contributor Don Whitaker). FAG contributor Susan Adams writes of George A. Eichelberger, "I found (on Fold3) that he was a private in Captain Philip Adam Eichelberger's Company, 13th Regiment SC Volunteers. He's listed as 56 years old, and I believe he is Phillip's father. In his Civil War record, it says that George died on 22 Feb 1862 at White Hall Hospital. On a SC Civil War site, it says George "died of disease." The ledger is very faint and I cannot read the inscription except to make out the name and a numeral or two. The stone would have to be cleaned to verify additional information. He lies buried next to his wife, Mahala Eichelberger.
