Lela Belle Burnett was born June 7, 1919 at Lagrange, Texas to Joseph L. Mcllvain and Gertie Lee (Ashmore). They lived at Rockwood Texas for some time where Lela was baptized in the Brazos River. She attended school at Lomax-between Big Springs and Stanton. She married Ray Burnett in August of 1935. Soon after they moved to Lamesa where they farmed. They moved to Lea County in 1953 and continued farming for over 50 years.
She passed away at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs March 1,2013 at the age of 93 years and 9 months She is survived by: 1 son Bobby (La Jean), 2 grandsons
Jim Bob(Melissa), Dale Ray(Shari) and granddaughter Troy Lee (Philip) Ozborn, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, her parents, 5 brothers,
and 2 sisters.
