Frederick Riedel, well known in this section, and father of Mrs. Edward Dress of our city, passed away at Potter last Thursday at the advanced age of 78 years. The old gentleman died of a heart stroke while on this way to the Manitowoc River for a fishing trip. Having left his home directly after dinner, he was searched for when darkness began to set in and was found near the river with his fishing equipment still in his hand, and apparently had been dead the entire afternoon.

The deceased was born Sept. 20, 1854 in Klein Conover, Germany and emigrated to America in the year 1872, in the company of his mother, one sister and two brothers. Their first home was near Stiles.

In the year 1880, Mr. Riedel married Miss Louise Bettner, and they made their home for one year at the Bettner home, during which time Mr. Riedel learned the cheese business at Sheboygan. After that he operated a cheese factory for John Behnke in the village of Potter, the factory being located at or near the place now known as the Richard Zahn residence. For eleven years he operated a cheese factory and creamery two miles east of Brillion, now owned by H. J. Olm, and then moved to the Town of Rantoul where he conducted the factory now owned by Jos. Peot, for 19 years. Old age gradually coming on, the couple decided to move to Potter and spend their remaining days in comfort.

The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church of Rantoul, Rev. F. H. Moecker officiating. Survivors are the bereaved widow, five children, one brother and two sisters, Gerhard Riedel, cashier of the Potter State Bank was one of the sons.
