Evelyn Crews Abel, 91, of Ponca City, passed away Sunday March 3, 2013, in Tulsa.
Evelyn was born on Oct. 27, 1921, in Mounds, the daughter of Alonzo Odor and Maud Annalee Campbell Crews. She grew up and went to school in Blackwell. Evelyn married Clifford Abel on July 23, 1938, in Seminole. They lived in many interesting places because of his employment as a country school principal. They moved to Ponca City in 1954.
Evelyn was a homemaker, loved to work with her flowers and garden and was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years; great-grandson, Samuel Butler; three sisters, Catherine Anderson, Vera Marie Bruce, and Rosalie Coley; brother, Lloyd "Jack" Wesley Crews; and two step-brothers, Sherman Crews and Edward Crews.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Roger and Becky Abel of Ponca City, Ellis and Kay Abel of Enid, and Deanna Barrett of Tulsa; two sisters, Pauline Crews and Carolyn Dempewolf both of Ponca City; eight grandchildren, Julie Kirk, Annette Abel, Holly Abel, Jason Abel, Daniel Abel, Allison Allensworth, Rhett Butler and James Butler; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Thursday, March 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 8, at First Christian Church of Ponca City with the Rev. Larry Metzger officiating. Casket bearers will be Jason Abel, Daniel Abel, Rhett Butler, James Butler, Rick Allensworth and Jacob Lewis. Burial will follow at Longwood Cemetery.
