Sarah McClure Ridgeway Rogers was born March 20, 1850 in Grant County, Indiana, and departed this life at Homer, Illinois, August 20, 1929, at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 9 days. She was the youngest of a family of five children born to John and Rhesa McClure.
When a small child her family came to the Busey farm east of Sidney, Illinois, residing there a few years, then returned to Wabash, Wabash County, Indiana.
There she grew to young womanhood. In 1867 she was married to John F. Ridgeway. To this union was born one child, Lillie Maude. On March 25, 1870 Mr. Ridge died. The following year, 1871, the mother and daughter came to Sidney, Ill. On April 20, 1872 Lillie Maude passed away.
On December 5, 1872 she was married to Austin Rogers of Sidney. To this union one daughter, Ruby Ruth, was born.
In June 1910, Mr. Rogers passed away. Mrs. Rogers continued her residence at her farm home near Sidney until 1918, at which time her home was established in Homer, Ill.
She is survived by the following relatives: one daughter, Mrs. Harvey West, Sidney; one step-daughter, Mrs. Nettie English, Urbana; one sister, Miss Lida McClure, Wabash, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Lois, Mary, Elizabeth, Juanita, Neva Jane, Clara Maxine, Barbara June West of Sidney.
In 1909 Mrs. Rogers united with the Presbyterian church of Sidney. The membership was later transferred to the Homer Presbyterian church.
"Grandma Rogers", as she was known to neighbors and friends, was a most devoted friend and neighbor, also mother and grandmother.
Much interest was given to educating her loved ones; they gave her constant companionship and cheerful care.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Rogers were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the home on East Fourth street, in charge of F. E. Birkett, a former pastor of the Homer Presbyterian church, now of Sheldon, Illinois. Interment was at the G. A. R. Pall bearers were Walter and Edward Ford of Indianapolis and Wabash, Ind.; Alva Zeigler; Howard ____, Sidney; Alva Junkens, and ____ ____.
Carrying flowers were Lois, Mary, Juanita, and Neva Jane West, her daughters, and Misses Maria Poage and Alberta Jennings.
